Travel for Credit
A real education happens in more than one setting. AVRO’s travel-for-credit and experiential learning give your teen the chance to earn an elective credit while they explore the world, stay active, and learn alongside their classmates. It is learning a textbook alone cannot give them.

Learning that happens beyond the classroom
We believe teens grow as whole people, not just as test-takers. Travel-based learning pairs adventure and physical activity with genuine academic work, so your teen builds confidence and independence while earning credit toward the OSSD. Each trip is designed around curiosity and real experience, and the learning is woven through every part of the journey.
Destinations, timing, and costs change from year to year, and every trip is planned with safety, purpose, and your teen in mind. Because the details shift with each cohort, the best way to hear what is on offer this year is a short conversation. We are always happy to walk you through the current options.
The philosophy behind it
An ecological mindset, grade by grade
Experiential learning at AVRO rests on a simple idea: helping students understand how they fit into the natural world is a process in itself. We explore that across the areas below, and they grow with your teen through every grade.
Physical and environmental
Students learn about the physical world and the environment around them through active, hands-on experience, from healthy movement to a growing awareness of how our choices affect the planet.
Intellectual
New places and new experiences give students something real to think critically about, so they build thinking skills and connect what they learn to the wider world.
Emotional
Travel builds relationships, resilience, and a sense of interconnectedness. Students leave understanding that everything on earth lives in relation to everything else, including them.
How the credit works
The travel-for-credit program follows the Ontario curriculum, so the experience counts as a genuine elective credit toward your teen’s OSSD. Real academic work is woven through every part of the journey, and each trip is planned with safety and purpose in mind.
